New Bishop for El Paso

From the VIS:

"Today the Holy Father appointed Bishop Mark Joseph Seitz as bishop of the Diocese of El Paso (area 69,090, population 848,00, Catholics 662,000, priests 103, permanent deacons 27, religious 190), Texas, USA. Bishop Seitz, previously auxiliary of Dallas, Texas, and titular of Cozyla, serves as a member of the Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs in the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops."

El Paso has been waiting a long time for a new bishop! El Paso has been in my prayers ever since I first learned of Fr. Michael Rodriguez, the courage priest who stood against "gay marriage" at local city council meetings, and also offered the EF Mass and lots of traditional Catholic teaching to his parishioners. For his efforts, he was sent off to the hinterlands, to a tiny parish far, far away. No matter! He continues to do good stuff there, and you can bet he was an answer to prayer for his most recent parishioners. (See the "Fr. Michael Rodriguez" tab at the top of the page for more posts on this topic.)

Bishop Seitz was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 10, 1954 but has lived in the Diocese of Dallas since 1972 when he began his priestly formation at Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 17, 1980. He was named a Prelate of Honor (Monsignor) by His Holiness Pope John Paul II in December 2004. He was ordained as an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Dallas in April of 2010.

To be updated...check back later!

See Tantamergo's post on this, too - as he is in the Dallas area, he has some experience of Bishop Seitz.
