Bishop Liam Cary, Diocese of Baker |
"You aim at a devout life, dear Philothea, because as a Christian you know that such devotion is most acceptable to God's Divine Majesty," says St. Francis de Sales in his book "Introduction to the Devout Life". And we can all be Philotheas, as St. Francis notes: "I have made use of a name suitable to all who seek the devout life, Philothea meaning one who loves God."

Archbishop Sample Installation Mass Photos
Here are some great photos of the installation Mass of Archbishop Alexander Sample on April 2, 2013, in Portland, Oregon. These photos are all by Marc Salvatore, who was hired as a second photographer by the Archdiocese of Portland for the event.

Great pictures. I wonder what Archbishop Sample was saying to Bishop Carey!

Ops that is Bishop Cary
ReplyDeleteIt's not the Archbishop with Bishop Cary - looks to be a deacon, but I don't know his name (nor what he might be saying!!).
ReplyDeleteThat all looks lovely but what is with the Eucharist the size of a small pizza? Sorry for my crude comparison, but really? Again, sorry.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - LOL! Yeah, there are many things that could be said about this Mass. But I decided to just post the photos without commenting. Now that you bring it up though...Do you think the table...er...altar was about to collapse under the weight of all those chalices?! 3000 in attendance sounds like a good time to NOT offer the Precious Blood to me! There's more that could be said. The plus is that the deacon did not dance the Book of the Gospels down the aisle, there were no ethnic dancers with bowls of incense, and the Archbishop actually used Latin quotes in his homily.
