Your Daily Dose of the Vortex

The Vortex for Monday, December 3:

Read the script here.

Here's a quick excerpt (my emphases):

On my desk I keep a quote from a brilliant man by the name of Alasdair MacIntyre from his most widely read book, After Virtue.

Here is part of that quote: “[As the Roman Empire declined into the Dark Ages] A crucial turning point in that earlier history occurred when men and women of good will turned aside from the task of shoring up the Roman Imperium and ceased to identify the continuation of civility and moral community with the maintaining of that Imperium.”

Yep. Catholics - the smart and holy ones - figured out that the empire was on its last legs and stopped investing their energies in the prolonging of the state and realized that they were the salt of the earth an the light of the world as promised by Our Blessed Lord. So they banded together, formed small communities, religious communities, monasteries - anything they could think of to connect with each other hunker down for the coming storm: the dark ages.

We're about there, I think.

The Vortex for Tuesday, December 4:

Read the script here.  If you've been following the issue of the CCHD and all the problems with the giving of Catholic money to in-your-face anti-Catholic "charities", you'll find this very enlightening.

Dr. Boyd says: "We're about there, I think."

    SuperT agrees with you:

  4. Well, there is no one that I know here that would be willing to form a community - big or small. I have to live in one of THE worst dioceses in the USA. They were Vatican II before Vatican II. It is true they are a dying breed, but not fast enough for me, and they still control the machine tightly.

  5. Lorraine, I feel the same way over here - though we are not as liturgically horrible as your diocese and parish. Still, there are few around here that share my views! That's the beauty of the internet, though. We can be something of a "community" even if we don't live in the same neighborhood. At least we can all say, "I guess I'm not the only one after all!"

  6. I just read Supertrad's article. Most people are in denial. They think we are in the "New Springtime" of the church. There is one forum on the internet that is connected to a radio show that contributes to this head in the sand denial of reality. I think that that is their job - damage control. They do it well.
